LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- A Laurel County man has been fatally shocked while swimming in Lake Cumberland.

According to WKYT-TV in Lexington, the incident killed 34-year-old Kevin Short, who was swimming with family members over the weekend.

Pulaski County Deputy Coroner Danny Karriker said Short took hold of aluminum ladder at a private dock and it touched a frayed electrical cord, electrocuting him.

Karriker said Short was able to push his young son onto the dock to safety. Several people tried to reach Short, but were also shocked.
