Bowling Green, Ky--The Willie Taggart era is over at WKU.
Taggart stepped down as head coach of the Hilltoppers Friday and accepted the head coach position and the University of South Florida.
Taggart informed WKU players of his decision shortly after the team practiced for its upcoming bowl game. Shorty after the team meeting, Taggart departed for Florida from Bowling Green Regional Airport.
He leaves WKU after spending three seasons as head coach. Taggart compiled an overall record of 16-20, leading the Hilltoppers to back to back 7-5 seasons.
Taggart is a native of Palmetto, Fl, which is about 45 minutes from the South Florida campus.
WKU has yet to comment on Taggart's departure.
