Tanker Explosion in Nashville Prompts Evacuations

By Associated Press |

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Firefighters in west Nashville have contained a blaze resulting from the explosion of a tanker truck carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel.

No injuries were reported.

WKRN-TV says the blast around midday Wednesday sent fuel vapors into the city's storm water system and caused secondary explosions. A few buildings were evacuated, including a church day care facility and Nashville Prep. Several other schools were placed on lockown.

City officials say the sewer system is unaffected and drinking water is safe.

Sixty firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze using foam.
