Teen On Church Trip Drowns In Green River Lake

TAYLOR COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- The Taylor County coroner confirms that a 19-year-old drowned while on a church outing in Green River Lake State Park.

Jose Zambrano, of Lebanon, was found around 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Zambrano was at Green River Lake for a baptismal service and church picnic. The coroner confirms he swam 50 feet away from the shore and drowned in 20 feet of water.

According to officials, Zambrano went into the lake to retrieve a floating device that the current had pulled away from him.

The coroner says that Zambrano was with a group from a Lebanon church named Upon the Abundance of Life.

The family is planning a service at Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon.
