Tenn. Child Killed by Downed Power Line

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Metro Nashville police say a child has died after coming into contact with a downed power line.

A statement from police says 9-year-old Christopher Ellison was pronounced dead Thursday night shortly after being taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police said the power line was downed after wind caused a large tree limb to snap, and it landed on the line. They said it was unclear how Ellison came into contact with the wire.

Trees and power lines were down over a wide area of Middle Tennessee as a cold front pushed through bringing severe weather.

Nashville Electric Service reported that up to 14,000 customers lost power, but most service had been restored by early Friday.
