There's a new text messaging option, if you happen to witness a crime.

Kentucky State Police say, they don't want to take away from calling 911, which is the first thing to utilize.

But, the new option allows people who may not be able to make phone calls in a criminal situation, to simply send a text.

"When they see a crime happening. We don't want to get away from 911 if it's something happening at the time, but they can text a tip to our Kentucky State Police text number."

If you need to "Text-a-Tip" to the Kentucky State Police send a text message with the information you have to 67283.

Kentucky State Police say someone will text back as soon as they receive your message.
