BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- On Friday, September 20th, The Symphony will perform Classical Jazz: The music of Ellington & Gershwin with Willis Deloney on piano. This concert will be the first of The Symphony’s 2013-14 season and will be one you won’t want to miss. Selections from Duke Ellington will include New World A Comin’and from Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue, I got Rhythm Variations, Crazy for You Overture and Porgy and Bess Selections featuring soloist, Valencia Pleasant and Aundrey Ligon, Jr.

Rhapsody in Blue and Porgy and Bess were two works that established George Gershwin’s reputation as a serious classical composer with Rhapsody being one of the most popular of all American concert works. Duke Ellington referred to his compositions as “American Music” rather than jazz and was considered one of America’s great musical ambassadors. Guest pianist Willis Delony (Five By Design) returns to Van Meter stage to join The Symphony in exciting performances of works by these two great American composers. Valencia Pleasant, soprano and Aundrey Z. Ligon, baritone join us for the Porgy & Bess selections.

Tickets are just $22 in advance and may be purchased by calling the WKU Fine Arts Box Office at 270-745-3121 or visiting us online by clicking the link below.
