Thousands of Bosniaks came together to reflect on their heritage.

They spent part of Saturday at the new Bosnian Islamic Center to enjoy their country's music, food, and traditions.

One young woman, who drove ten hours from Virgina to come to the convention, says she wanted to devote time to her culture.

"It brings back memories from early childhood, or what my parents have told me, my grandparents have told me, and it's just something I want to continue to my family, my kids, and then, my grand kids of course, in the future," says Inela Kahvedzic, who is visiting from Virginia.

Another man, who made the trip from Florida, says he wanted his two children to learn more about their heritage.

"I always like to go back, with my mind, when I'm bored. And I like it that my kids see this culture, and the language, and where they are coming from", says Mijaz Podrug, who is visiting from Florida.

A man from Missouri, who participated in the convention's soccer tournament along Lovers Lane, says it's nice to see old friends and relatives reunited in one place.

"It's really fun to get together again cause we don't really see each other, and get to see each other at the tournaments once a year, it's really important to be here," says Ahmo Karahasanovic, who is visiting from Missouri.

A member of the Congress of North American Bosniaks, who also lives in Missouri, says the convention is also meant to teach others about their way of life.

"To present Bosnian culture, traditions, customs, and nationality to the American people,"says Osman Nanic, who is visiting from Missouri.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Bosnian Islamic Center along Blue Level Road will take place at noon Sunday.

During the convention, organizers say visitors also got together to discuss important topics like elections in Bosnia.

Through out the weekend, at least ten thousand people are expected to attend the events at the Bosnian Islamic Center and the Sloan Convention Center.
