"The flu can be very serious but it is one of those common illnesses we take for granite, but it has the potential to be sometimes fatal," says Angela Jessie, AP-RN.

And the most common misconception.

"Of course that is not accurate the flu shot that we give it is a dead virus, so it makes your body maintain an immunity to the flu. You may still get the flu but it would probably be a much less severe case,"says Jessie.

Jessie says it takes 2 to 4 weeks for full immunity to kick in...Now to myth number 3.

"I don't believe in the flu shot. I don't believe it works."

"Strands that the flu shot this year they of course developed those based on what we've seen in the past. The ones that we are seeing this year are being covered in the flu shot that we have,"says Jessie.

And to number four is the pain worth the gain.

"It doesn't seem worth getting pricked with a needle if you don't like getting shots," says Tutino.

"No probably the people who say that have never had a bad case of the flu,"says Jessie.

And finally, myth number 5, only older people should get the shot.
