LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — The board of trustees at Transylvania University has unanimously reaffirmed its support of President R. Owen Williams.
The action came in response to a faculty vote on Friday of no confidence in Williams.
A statement from the university says the Board of Regents, which is an advisory board to the trustees and the president, also voted unanimously in support of Williams.
The board did not respond to a faculty resolution asking it to overrule Williams' decisions on whether two faculty members should receive tenure. The statement says the inaction means Williams' decision to not grant tenure is upheld.
Trustee Chairman W. T. Young Jr. says he hopes the administration and faculty can overcome their differences and work together to improve the school.
