A judge in Hickman has set a date to try a man in the killing of Hickman Mayor Charles Murphy.

WYVY-FM in Union City, Tenn., reported Fulton County Circuit Judge Tim Langford on Wednesday scheduled the trial of Tommy Lattus of Hickman to begin April 22, 2013.

Murphy was fatally shot in January.

Lattus' initial indictment was dismissed and a mental evaluation ordered. After psychiatrists at Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville determined Lattus was competent for trial, a new indictment was issued Nov. 8 by a Fulton County grand jury.

At defense attorney Dennis Null's request, the court set a hearing on Feb. 14 for a possible plea agreement.
