CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Kentucky State Police have planned a memorial service for a trooper killed in the line of duty 25 years ago.

The death of Trooper Johnny Edrington on Dec. 20, 1988, in Laurel County is one of only two unsolved slayings of an officer in Kentucky.

The memorial is set for Wednesday morning at Ransdell Chapel on the campus of Campbellsville University with a short graveside service at Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville.

State police spokesman William Gregory says investigators hope the memorial service will prompt someone to come forward with information that may help solve the case.

The memorial is taking place on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, which marks the passing of law enforcement officers who died while on duty.
