US Chamber of Commerce Promotes McConnell in TV Ad

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce will spend more than $180,000 to run a TV ad across Kentucky over the next 10 days promoting Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell as a champion for the state's coal industry.

The business organization describes McConnell in the 30-second ad, which begins airing Tuesday, as "a fighter" who opposes U.S. Environmental Protection Agency policies that harm mining.

The group's political director, Rob Engstrom, said in a statement that Kentuckians "have a true conservative champion" in McConnell. Engstrom said the Chamber of Commerce appreciates McConnell's efforts to fight back against "the war on coal."

McConnell, seeking re-election to a sixth term, faces Louisville businessman Matt Bevin in next year's GOP primary. The winner will likely face Democratic front-runner Alison Lundergan Grimes in the general election. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
