Unemployment Benefits Expire Tomorrow

Congress extended or expanded federal aid to the long-term jobless eleven times, but an extra lifeline wasn't included in the latest budget deal.

WASHINGTON (WBKO) -- Federal unemployment benefits end tomorrow for more than a million jobless Americans. The checks will stop coming after a program signed into law back in 2008 expires tomorrow.

Congress extended or expanded federal aid to the long-term jobless eleven times, but an extra lifeline wasn't included in the latest budget deal.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed a short-term extension for three months, which will make it to the floor of the senate when congress returns to work next month.
