Valentine's Day Rush Begins for Local Retailers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Valentine's Day is less than three days away, and local retailers are beginning to experience the last-minute rush for gifts.

3800 red roses may sound like a lot, but that's about how many Deemer Floral Shop in Bowling Green will be arranging for Valentines orders, and that doesn't include other flowers.

"It doesn't have to be roses just because it's Valentines Day. A lot of people like different flowers other than roses," said Deemer Floral Shop Manager Shayla Sweeney.

Those at Morris Jewelry say they see the same last-minute rush.

"It's not like Christmas where it's a month out. It's typically a gentleman's holiday where he gentlemen will come in, so (today) they're three or for days ahead of schedule," said Morris Jewelry Manager Jim Steen.

Steen says diamonds are always a girl's best friend and a great option for those willing to splurge a little.

"You're never off the hook even if she says she doesn't want anything. Diamonds are big this year. We've got Rythm of Love and different items," said Steen.

If bling isn't your thing, there's always chocolate!

"It's a crazy mess, but it's a happy crazy mess. As soon as Christmas season is over, we start rolling out the red and pink and getting everything ready, and this week is our busiest week of the year, so it's really exciting and fast-paced around here. We have over 50 orders already for Friday for chocolate covered strawberries. That's the main thing we get orders for, and this year, we've gone up in those orders by a lot," said Mary Jane's Chocolates' Emily Gott.

Mary Jane's and Deemer's say they'll keep taking those orders.

"We try not to turn down any orders. We want to do everything we can for our customers," said Sweeney.

You can be certain, even with all the extra work. These gifts will be made with love.

Steen did offer some tips for those shopping for their loved ones. He says whatever you choose. If it's from the heart, they're sure to love it.
