WKU Home Opener Tailgating

Updated: Wed 6:04 PM, Sep 05, 2012

It was pretty rainy as many of them were setting up their tailgates, but that was nothing for the most devoted WKU fans, who say they'd be there rain or shine. It was the smallest of fans who said it best.

"I like going around trying to find my friends form school, and just waiting until the game starts," said ten year-old WKU fan Trent Wade.

You didn't have to be ten to enjoy hanging out with your friends here.

"Because of all the camaraderie out here, and all the folks out here. We come year after year, and it's like a big reunion," said WKU fan, and Hopkinsville native Lee Thomason.

One set of WKU fans from Pennsylvania bought season tickets and plan to travel to every game, no matter the distance.

"Yes, we definitely think it's crazy. We're empty nesters. What else are we going to do," said WKU fans Chuck and Susan Warren.

One young fan wasn't just celebrating the start of the season. She was celebrating her 13th birthday too.

"It was a bit of a shocker when he told me you know, you're going to have your birthday party on a football field," said WKU fan Katie Thomason.

Thomason and her friends got to be apart of the human tunnel that welcomed the Toppers out onto the field at the start of today's game, something they say they won't forget.
