As the longest-serving Warren County Circuit Clerk, today Pat goad served her last day.
The county and circuit clerks offices are the only jobs Goad has ever known. When she worked for Warren County Circuit Clerk John Haynes, he made her an offer she couldn't turn down.
"He told me that if I would help him finish out his term, he would support me in running for election to succeed him," said Warren County Circuit Clerk Pat Goad.
He kept his word, and goad was elected Warren County Circuit Clerk in 1981.
Since her defeat in May's primary election... She says she's received support from the community and within her office.
"We wish her the best. She's put in 44 years with the clerks offices," said Deputy Clerk Marjorie Maxwell.
One of goad's deputy clerks will also retire today after 20 years.
"It's been nice. I'm going to miss it," said Deputy Clerk Mary Beane.
Beane and goad now look to the next chapter of their lives.
"I have been told along the way that when one door closes...another opens. I'm still waiting for that other door to open," said Goad.
Goad planned on serving at least one more term, but was defeated by Brandi Duvall in a heated may primary, and she says today is bittersweet.
"I'm sorry to be leaving. It was not my intention, but I guess none of us know what life brings. This is what it is. So I 'm going home," said Goad.
Brandi Duvall will be sworn in as Warren County Circuit Clerk tomorrow morning at the Warren County Justice Center, and will begin serving immediately.
