It's a serious problem that local organizations hope will get more attention.
On Monday, Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson and officials from Warren County signed a proclamation declaring March Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Representatives from Hope Harbor, a sexual trauma recovery center, were also on hand.
They say sexual assault remains an issue across the state.
"A sexual violence survey done by the Center for Disease Control found that over 47% of Kentucky women have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime," says Executive Director Melissa Whitley
Whitley says more than 20% of men have also reported sexual violence.
Events are planned throughout the month, including the nationally recognized "Take Back the Night".
