The Warren County fiscal court voted to upgrade some of the Sheriff's equipment today.

It's not about new vehicles or weapons, but officials say the investment is sure to arm the department with tools to keep you safe. In an emergency, time is often the greatest factor in safety.

The Warren County Sheriff's Department says it will be able to answer your 911 calls much faster thanks to a new dispatch system. The current system doesn't allow area law enforcement agencies to view one another's databases, but that's about to change.

"We'll be able to see each other's records as far as prior contact, and officer cautions on addresses and vehicles and people, where as now it takes two or three times longer than it will with the new system," said Warren County Sheriff Support Services Manager Stephen Harmon.

The connected databases aren't the only time-saving upgrade.

"The automatic vehicle locator, which will be on each patrol car. Which will allow us on 'in progress' calls to send the closest unit to that call by GPS," said Harmon.

The city and county have teamed up in hopes both can benefit from the sharing of information.

"The city of Bowling Green has provided the server, and we bought the system and are partnering with them," said Warren County Judge Executive Mike Buchanon.

"In a moment's notice, to be able to look into information that another agency has. We'd like for them to be able to do that with us as well," said Bowling Green Police Public Information Ofc. Ronnie Ward.

Using the city's server has more perks than just safety for both sides.

"We can help each other on the cost factor to make it cheaper for the taxpayers." said Ward.

The Warren County Fiscal Court approved the purchase of the hardware for the system today. It comes with a price tag of about $54,000. A price Buchanon says was low thanks to the partnership.

The Warren County Sheriff's Department says it hopes to have the new dispatch system operating by this summer.
