Wet Weather Causes Deadly Russell County Crash

RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. -- Kentucky State Police say it is investigating an accident that happened Wednesday at approximately 3:00 PM CST, 6.5 miles south of Jamestown on KY 1680.

KSP says Jesus Martinez, 18, was traveling south on KY 1680 in a 2001 Ford, when he lost control in a curve due to wet conditions.

Troopers say the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

KSP says a passenger, Matthew Merideth, 13, of Jamestown, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Russell County Coroner.

Martinez was transported to the Russell County Hospital where he was treated and released.

Troopers say both occupants were wearing seatbelts.
