City officials in Williamsburg are considering a ban on indoor smoking.
The Times-Tribune reports the City Council heard a first reading of the proposed ordinance on Monday night, but did not take a vote. A second reading will be heard next month.
Mayor Roddy Harrison said he understands both sides of the issue, but the job of city officials is "to protect everybody."
The ordinance lists few exceptions to a ban that would prohibit smokers from lighting up in all enclosed buildings that are open to the public or facilities that are places of employment.
