SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) — A ceremony marking the completion of repairs to the leaking Wolf Creek Dam in Southern Kentucky will go on as scheduled, but with increased security and not at the dam.
The Commonwealth Journal reports security for the event was increased after the bomb attack earlier this week at the Boston Marathon.
The event takes place at 10:30 a.m. CDT on Friday at the Russell County schools auditorium in Russell Springs. All cars and people are subject to be searched.
Repairs began after an outside panel of experts in 2005 declared the dam in high risk of failure.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deemed the project urgent because a failure of the nearly mile-long dam would flood communities along the Cumberland River all the way to Nashville, Tenn.
