Woman Found Unresponsive In Louisville Jail Dies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A woman who was found unresponsive in her Louisville jail cell has died.

The city said in a news release that the 27-year-old woman was found during routine security checks Wednesday and that lifesaving procedures were administered. The Courier-Journal reports Louisville Metro EMS took the woman, who hasn't been identified, to University Hospital, where she died.

The city says the woman was jailed Tuesday after being arrested on a charge of theft by unlawful taking or disposition over $300.

Corrections officials and Louisville police's Public Integrity Unit are investigating the death, which is standard practice.
