Police say a Bowling Green woman was shot through a door by a man believed to be her boyfriend.

22-year-old Westerfield Cole, Jr. has been charged with first degree assault.

Police say he was fighting with the victim when he left the home, and the woman shut the door.

That's when Cole allegedly fired a shot through the door of the couple's apartment on Kenilwood Way hitting the woman in the leg.

Police say it happened around 4 Wednesday afternoon.

"Police received a call that a shooting victim was being tended to in the emergency room at Greenwood Hospital. Police went to Greenview Hospital, and located the victim of the gunshot wound," says Bowling Green Police Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward.

The victim is currently in the hospital, her condition is unknown.

Cole is being held in the Warren County Regional Jail.
