FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) -- Boone County sheriff's department spokesman Tom Scheben told The Kentucky Enquirer deputies don't know yet whether 42-year-old Michelle Mockbee was targeted, or the victim of a random act of violence, robbery, or something else.
Workers at ThermoFisher Scientific reported a woman had been assaulted. Scheben says deputies found Mockbee dead inside the office area. Officials said the death was a homicide.
Mockbee was a logistics support representative and had worked at the company for 16 years. Company spokeswoman Karen Kirkwood says the Boone County facility is a distribution warehouse for laboratory supplies for hospitals.
Scheben says the business closed today, and employees were allowed to leave once deputies interviewed them.
