KSP Increases Patrols for New Years

"We're going to have troopers and detectives out doing directed patrols as well as using road safety check locations throughout the Post 3 area."

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- New Years is often a time for celebration, but Kentucky State Police say it can also be one of the deadliest times of year on roads.

KSP's Operation Holiday Lights is a reminder to drivers that Troopers will be out in force looking for impaired drivers during the holidays, and they say people should be prepared for more checkpoints than usual today and tomorrow.

"We're going to have troopers and detectives out doing directed patrols as well as using road safety check locations throughout the Post 3 area. We're reminding motorists to make sure they have all their information... have their insurance cards with them, drivers license, and make sure their vehicle is in good condition to be out on the highways," said Kentucky State Police Post 3 Public Information Officer Jonathan Biven.

Tpr. Biven says 2013 was a record low year for traffic fatalities, and they hope with the help of safe drivers it will remain low heading into the New Year.
