If you've thought about donating blood now may be the time.

The American Red Cross of South Central Kentucky hosted a blood drive at the Holiday Inn next to the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green today.

They hope the drive will help re-stock their shelves.

The Red Cross says they are always in need of donations during the summer months because without school in session they aren't able to hold as many drives.

Those who rolled up their sleeves to donate know they are making a difference.

"People need blood and there's not enough people donating so people need to donate. I've been donating since 1971," says Ronald Howell, who donated blood.

Howell says he donates two to three times a year.
