Firehouse Festival Teaches Dangers Of Kitchen Fires

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - The annual Firehouse Festival was held outside The Home Depot in Bowling Green by the Bowling Green Fire Department.

The annual festival is held every October in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Month. This year's theme is preventing kitchen fires and learning about the dangers.

Kids and their families were able to see how firefighters and their equipment work in case they are ever in need of help.

"Most of the time when people meet someone from the fire department is during an emergency situation. So we want a chance for people to come out and meet the firefighters, see the equipment up close, let children sit up in the seat and just see what it feels like to be a fireman for the day," says Marlee Boenig of the Bowling Green Fire Department.

As part of fire prevention month, BGFD is reminding everyone to check their smoke detector once a month and change out the batteries twice a year.
