On the outside it may look like your ordinary vet. Inside sits a full lobby. Dr. Don Denton has been keeping his office full for the last 47 years. Clients say it's his attitude toward each individual animal that keeps them coming back.

"He's always compassionate. Always concerned about the animals. He gives you 100% when he's got you in the office," says George Roberts.

"He always has a room full of clients and he makes you feel like your the only one he has for the day," says Sandy Rigdon.

"I've known him since I was a kid. My grandmother brought her dog here and as long as he has been doing this I can't imagine the amount of compassion he has had," says Debbie Shoulders.

Dr. Denton goes beyond your average vet. He has been known to work 7 days a week, 12 hour days, until every pet is seen. His passion and love for the job comes from his childhood on a farm, where he always knew he wanted to help animals.

"I feel fortunate that I was able to do something that I wanted to do as a profession, rather than going to a job that I would be in desperation all the time," says Dr. Denton.

And fellow veterinarians agree, saying desperation has never been seen in Dr. Denton.

"He probably does two or three surgeries before I even get up and have a cup of coffee. So to keep doing this he has to really love it," says Debbie Shoulders.

Aside from helping pets, Dr. Denton has given others in our area their own start in the business.

"He gave me a job and has been mentoring me since I was 19 years old. Anything I need I have always gotten it here at Dr. Denton," says Dr. Van Cohron.

For his continued desire to save animals, never stopping until each patient is seen, we honor Dr. Denton as this week's Hometown Hero.
