"We are centrally located, within a days drive of over 70% of the countries population. I am sure there are plenty of economic factors that came into play as well," says Rep. Jim DeCesare of Rockfield.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Dirt has been moving quickly at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. By Labor Day next year, the 184 acre site must be completed. For construction crews that hasn't been an easy task with this season's weather.

"We've got about half a million cubic yards of dirt excavation to move and place," says Mac Yowell, Director of Warren County Public Works.

A surplus of more than 11 inches of rain has turned parts of the site into mud. When the rainfall comes, and mud forms, work must stop. Now crews are racing to beat mother nature, yet again.

"There is not much we can do in winter. We anticipate getting the water and sewer lines extended thorough the park this winter," says Yowell.

Although the weather has tired its best to drive the project off course, grading is more than 70% complete.

"It is you might say completed. In the spring we intend to have all of it completed and ready to start paving," says Yowell.

The NCM Motorsports Park is an addition to the already established museum and Corvette Assembly Plant. Area leaders say Bowling Green and its rich motorsports history are a perfect fit.

"We are centrally located, within a days drive of over 70% of the countries population. I am sure there are plenty of economic factors that came into play as well," says Rep. Jim DeCesare of Rockfield.

Once the track is complete, it is expected to bring a multi-million dollar boost to the local economy.

Warren County Public Works is overseeing the project, but all construction work is being done by an outside contractor.
