On a day like any other, the Assistant Principal of Edmonton Elementary saved a girl's life when she began to choke, and became her Hometown Hero.
Jamie Moss has been trained in first aid for the past 16 years, but December 2011 was the first time he had to use his skills.
As he was making his rounds in the lunchroom, he stopped to talk to twin sisters Cassie and Lindsey Duvall, when Lindsey began to choke.
"I could see the look in her eyes and it was a look of fear so I ran around the table to get to her as quickly as I could but by time I could get to her I could tell the color... her facial... the color of her skin had started to turn," recalls Mr. Moss.
He raced around the table and reached Lindsey in time to perform the Heimlich Maneuver and dislodge the piece of bacon from the young girl's throat.
The girls called their mother and explained to her what had happened.
Amanda Duvall says she is "really glad that he was there when he was and was trained to do that and help her."
Cassie was scared that day, but now she and Mr. Moss are even closer.
"I think he is a hero for saving my sister," says Cassie.
Lindsey still finds the incident difficult to talk about, but she says that Mr. Moss is her "hero" for saving her life.
"It was just really, really quick and fast, but nothing I would think of being a hero for," says Mr. Moss.
For his quick action that saved a young girl's life, we honor Assistant Principal Jamie Moss of Edmonton Elementary as a Hometown Hero.
