Tax Deadline Is Tuesday, Bowling Green Residents File Taxes
Some Bowling Green residents are a little happier these days after they got a refund check from the government.
While the tax deadline is Tuesday, experts say many residents filed their taxes early this year for economical reasons.
"In January, we have the rush season, there's early filers and there's quite a few of them and this year, there seemed to be more early than usually," says June Hendrick from Bowling Green Tax Service.
Two residents, who got cash back from their returns, have already spent the money.
"We're in the process of buying a house so our taxes basically went toward a down payment and paying off other bills," says Britney Whitaker, who used her tax refund money toward buying a house.
"I got a car because I needed a car to be able to get my kids back and forth so that's what I did," says Fatima Montel, who used her tax refund money to buy a car.
Another resident who filed his taxes in April says he just got his refund check in the mail and already knows what he is going to use the cash for.
"I just put it in the bank, I'm actually going to Western and so, trying to save up, with whatever I got back, what little I got back, and maybe spend it a little bit on the summer, trying to get through the rest of the semester at school right now," says Chris Hood, who is using his tax refund money for school.
And so does another woman, who just filed her taxes Monday, and is now waiting for her refund check.
"I've got medical bills that need to be paid and just doing what I need to about keeping up with the regular bills," says Martha Keith, who is using her tax refund money toward paying medical bills.
For those who don't plan on filing their taxes by Tuesday and instead, are filing for an extension, you'll have until October 15th to file your taxes.
