City Commission Plans to Raise Fees

City Commission Plans to Raise Fees

The Bowling Green City Commission is planning to make some decisions that could make you pay more in fees.

The commission is planning to raise fees in several different areas of parks and recreation.

Not everything will be going up, just certain areas such as some rec leagues, golf course fees.

Some are no strangers to change.

"I've been a member of parks and rec for several years now, and I remember when I was first coming it was really cheap. I was going with my dad, they were giving us father/son discount and things like that. They've since done away with that," said parks and rec user Obed Fraser.

Others have some ideas for what they'd like to see done with higher fees.

"It could be a good idea as long as they're using the money to give back to the people who are paying it out. If they're offering some personal training and things like that to get people more involved through fitness, then i think it's a great idea," said parks and rec user Tyler Chapman.

Now, many of the fees are not being raised too much, but it's all to help balance out costs for the city, something which the people understand.

"You look at gas prices up to four dollars a gallon. Everything goes up, groceries have been going up. I think people have just been adjusting to the fact that everything has been going up in price," said Fraser.

Also coming up for the commission is the final approval for a Dollar General being built in the TIF district something the commission is confident it will pass.

"It's an opportunity to get a Dollar General store back downtown, which is important for the number of people that don't have transportation. It's just a good organization to have downtown. There's no other offers on the table for that property, so I suspect it will pass," said BG Commissioner Bill Waltrip.

The commission will address these issues tomorrow at the work session and then in the regular meeting, and it expects the Dollar General to be built by this October.
