TVA Opens New Fishing Pier

GRAND RIVERS, KY. (AP) -- A new recreation area with a fishing pier has been opened on the west bank of the Tennessee River near Kentucky Dam.

The Gleaner reported US Army Corps of Engineers build the pier and parking along the newly opened section of the riverbank as part of the Kentucky Lock Addition Project. The Tennessee Valley Authority closed the section in 1999, when work on a second navigation lock began.

The new 110-by-1,200-foot navigation lock will be adjacent to the existing lock on the east side of the river and Kentucky Lake.

The concrete fishing pier extends about 115 feet into the river and is similar to the fishing pier across the river on Powerhouse Island that opened last fall.
