FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) --Lawmakers return to Frankfort next Thursday for the final day of the legislative session. Beshear says that gives lawmakers ample time to pass the bill.
Beshear joined several Frankfort political leaders, including Democratic House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Republican Senate Floor Leader Robert Stivers, in the fresh push for the legislation that the second-term governor said would help to eliminate a "devastating scourge" of prescription drug abuse
The legislation would put the attorney general's office in charge of the state's prescription monitoring system, known as KASPER, that can identify doctors who over-prescribe painkillers.
