BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- Seven Western Kentucky University students hope to raise money and awareness of Alzheimer's disease this summer by riding across America.
Bowling Green Daily News reports that the students are members of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and they hope to raise $175,000 for the Alzheimer's Association.
That would be twice the amount that a different group from the same fraternity raised two years ago when they took a similar trip.
Bowling Green junior Josh Amos, who is helping to coordinate the ride, said he felt a "calling" to get involved after his aunt was diagnosed with dementia.
The group plans to start its ride in Minnesota on May 25 and finish in Florida on July 20. The 3,000-mile route will bring them through Bowling Green on June 22.
