FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Bob Mitchell, the longtime aide to U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers, said Monday his retirement as district director will be effective June 1. The 68-year-old Mitchell has worked alongside Rogers for more than 30 years.
Mitchell said he still will continue to serve as Rogers' campaign manager and chief fundraiser. Mitchell's wife, Nancy, also is retiring from her Corbin accounting business.
Rogers praised Mitchell for his work on a litany of projects that have improved the quality of life in impoverished mountain communities, including widening highways, building flood-control levees, cleaning up pollution, and most recently fighting prescription drug abuse.
