PINEVILLE, KY. (AP) -- Pineville has set a vote on whether to allow packaged liquor sales in the city for June 26.

Bell County Judge-Executive Albey Brock set the vote Tuesday after a petition bearing 100 names had been submitted. There only had to be 71 certified names to meet the percentage requirement for the petition.

Brock told The Daily News in Middlesboro that he opposes allowing a vote, but must set one under state law.

If passed, the city of Pineville could not make an ordinance that could overrule Kentucky laws already in place. Brock stated that this is the most broad petition that one could file for in regards to packaged alcohol sells.
