Dozens Came Out To Cowboy Style Shootout Competition At Park Mammoth Resort

Part of Park Mammoth Resort looked like a scene out of the wild wild west Sunday as mock cowboys drew their guns.

It was all part of the Rockcastle Rangers "James Gang Rides Again" annual shootout competition.

Participants got to dress up as cowboys and shoot era specific guns at targets.

Depending on age and experience, they competed in different divisions including, gun slinger, frontiersman, and outlaw.

More than a hundred people competed.

A 15-year-old participant was the world champion in a previous competition, while another shooter was just 10-years-old.

"I like winning obviously, but I just do it because I love shooting with all these people and everyone is so nice, I just love being around everyone," says Ashlynn Peters, a 15-year-old who is the world champion for the junior girls division in Cowboy Action.

"It's a fun sport and we get to come out here and shoot," says 10-year-old Grant Disser.

Participants compete for championship buckles and plaques at these completions.

The Rockcastle Rangers also hold a local club shooting match every month.
