People Across Kentucky Come Out To Wax Marina To Enjoy Memorial Day Weekend And Reflect On The Holiday
Dozens of people came out to Wax Marina for the Memorial Day Weekend to not only have fun, but also reflect.
One man, who drove down from Louisville, is a firefighter.
He says he's thankful for our servicemen.
"Everybody that served at one time or another, whether it's in the military, fire department, or police department, it's just a memorial for everyone that does good for the country," says Jason Harp, who is spending time with family at Wax Marina.
He brought his two sons and their friends to the marina so they would have a good time.
"I think it's really fun because we get to take out boat out and we get to hit a lot of waves," says Harp's 12-year-old son, Cameron.
The son of one of the owners of Wax Marina says he also likes spending the holiday with family.
"I like helping my family out and I enjoy this because I get to have fun," says Nicholas Reed, who is 10-years-old.
One woman, who came out to the marina from Elizabethtown, says the holiday hits close to home because she is a teacher at the Fort Knox base.
"All of my students right now have had a deployed parent and the brigade just got back and it's been really stressful," Jacquelyn Lawrence, who is spending time with family at Wax Marina.
A man, who is also from Elizabethtown and has been spending the weekend on a boat house, says he appreciates the freedom we have thanks to our armed forces.
"Kind of a time to reflect back and be thankful, what people sacrificed for us to be able to come out to the lake and have good times," says Derrick Westbrook, who is spending time with family at Wax Marina.
The owners of Wax Marina say they're expecting several hundred people to come out for the holiday.
