I've always believed in locking my car doors but my husband made a point that is also very much agreeable. First off don't leave stuff in your vehicles that someone would want to steal, and second why lock Your doors then if they do steal it or something in it,it may be cheaper on u in the long run. They damage way less if by chance the vehicles are found. But that's his view and I have mine I still choose to lock my doors even if just think right in right out:)

Thank you for your interest in this story. Since you are so interested, here is the nitty-gritty. In the last few months we have had an increase in thefts from vehicles. We have caught at least three who told us they are only stealing from cars that are left unlocked. The victims tell us they left their cars unlocked. You are correct in saying it is not the victims fault but if everyone locked their vehicles, these three would not have stolen from them. The number of vehicles having windows broken has not increased over any other month you want to compare statistics to. We have participated in several PSA telling people to lock their cars but we get reports every day of vehicles being stolen from that were unlocked. It would really help if people would look around and pay attention to what is happening in their neighborhoods and call us if they see someone suspicious. It doesn't always solve the problem but everything the community and the police can do, will help. If you would like to talk to me about this further, I would love to talk to you. Education, both for you and me, is an amazing thing. We can all learn a little from each other. Ronnie Ward BGPD

The Car Break-ins aren't just happening to those who have left their car unlocked or window down, which still isn't ok for someone to steal your things, but there have been a lot of windows broken for the thieves to steal whatever they want. It is not the person who owns the cars fault we are having a high crime rate of car break in's so I wish the law enforcement would quit blaming the victim of these break-ins. Yes, there are precautions you can take but that is no guarantee that your car won't be broken into. I say we watch out for each other and report suspicious people walking or driving through parking lots to the proper authorities or business owners.
