Nursing Home Chain Pulls From Kentucky

Posted: 12:31 PM May 30, 2012

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- A nursing home chain says it won't operate in Kentucky any longer.

The Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/Lfbd6B) reports that Extendicare Health Services Inc. cited increased litigation against its facilities and the failure of state lawmakers to make it more difficult to sue nursing homes as reasons for its departure.

The company says it will lease its 21 facilities to a long-term care operator in Texas, but declined to identify the company.

The Kentucky facilities affected are located across the state and include two in Richmond and one each in Irvine, Stanton, Somerset and Salyersville.

Approval for the transfer of ownership and operations is expected by July 1.
