Father Convicted Of Reckless Homicide In Caldwell

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- A western Kentucky jury has convicted a man of reckless homicide in the death of his 7-month-old daughter.

It was the second trial for Jesse Allison after a jury deadlocked last September.

The Paducah Sun (http://bit.ly/MfY8PH ) reports the Caldwell County Circuit Court jury on Thursday recommended a five-year sentence. Sentencing is July 3.

The jury convicted Allison of a lesser crime than the murder charge he faced in the death of his daughter, Ariel, in September 2009.

Commonwealth's Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins said she was satisfied with the verdict in a difficult case based largely on circumstantial evidence.

Allison claimed he awoke from a nap to find the baby's head wedged between the crib mattress and bars and her legs dangling over the bedside. Prosecutors contended Allison smothered the child.
