Truck/commercial drivers know, or should know, what their job entails prior to accepting the job, home or away. Many of us work in occupations that require long hours and our fullest attention to our tasks at hand or face strict disciplinary actions or worse horrific injuries to ourselves and/or others. We're not allowed to constantly gab to family, friends or whomever during our work-times, I would think steering a commercial truck safely down the highway would at least require the same concentration and dedication to the tasks at hand as ours do in a fixed setting. One would logically think that you should be able to talk all you want on your down-time, the same as the rest of us are allowed, and leave your drive-time to fully concentrate on all us other morons carelessly driving the other vehicles on YOUR highways. Why do commercial drivers always play the "we're privileged" because whatever excuse applies at the time. Maybe if commercial drivers would attempt keeping a watchful eye on your own kind and weeding out the thugs and wrecks waiting to happen that shouldn't be allowed to gain a CDL things might be just a little safer of our highways, appears sometimes the "professional" drivers have the worst habits on the road. Get out of your rigs and drive a 1000 miles in our shoes and you'll realize exactly what's happening.

Hey, it is what it is. He was talking on the phone, he was distracted, he wrecked! He admitted all these issues. Occasionally real accidents happen, all wrecks are not accidents. Yea, lots of people driving cars are similarly distracted while driving and wreck. However, professional CDL truck drivers operating their specialty vehicles are being paid to drive, not socialize. Regular automobile drivers usually aren't professional drivers nor earning a wage for doing it. It's my understanding handheld cell phones while driving are banned. This same argument is on this same page nearly constantly with the same sides lobbying their issues. If a wreck is the result of a known, driver, error it sure isn't an accident. Seems like banning some of these distractions would be the most logical thing that needs to happen due to most drivers apparently not having the ability to make those type choices themselves.

Cell phones are a part of life. You can't ban people from talking on cell phones what's next, you conna ban me from talking to my spouse or children or eating or playing with radio, all of these are causes of accidents as well. Careless, yes but let's not crucify the guy. I guarantee you if you have a cell phone you have used it while driving.

It really aggravates me when the first thing people want to do is ban cell phones for truckdrivers. If the general public had to go through what a truck driver does in one week a lot of you would change your way of thinking. A phone is the ONLY thing that connects us to any kind of life at home. While we're at it, let's place a camera in all of you "perfect" people's vehicles and see how many times a day you are destracted while driving. Because guess what, that one second you take YOUR eyes off the road to pick up your drink your drinking, or eating that candy bar, or changing the station on a radio.... You could just as easily cause an accident from being distracted as well. What about the parents out there with small children in the car?? How many times have your children demanded your immediate attention. Do you pull over every time?? I didn't think so. So before you speak about taking away the only way we have to talk to our loved ones at home, while we do one of the most dangerous jobs out there to make a decent HONEST living and to see to it that the consumers (read all of you) have the products you need every day. Drive a 1000 miles in our shoes.

So a dropped call caused the accident. Better change cell phone company to one with better coverage. :)

As I travel the Interstates I see lots of truckers. Nearly all of the truckers I see are conversing on cell phones. I would imagine most of these truckers are in a constant state of distraction from talking on cell phones. Truckers are required to be a more trained driver than passenger vehicle drivers and are required to study for and pass a more intense Commercial Driver License test and are held, supposedly, to a higher standard of responsibilities and standards. It confounds me they are allowed to be distracted by constant and ongoing cell phone use.

We were returning from IN going south on I-65 and saw on the northbound side an overturned truck horribly wrecked, was surprised to read that the driver survived. Cell phones are very distracting that is why they make a bluetooth for hands free use. If you are going to be driving a 15 ton vehicle and sharing the road with smaller vehicles, you need to be responsible enough not to be distracted like this. How irresponsible!

Wow, that must of been one important phone call.

This accident was near the Hart and Barren County line near Horse Cave where there is NO construction zone or any construction going on. So... learn your facts before you post something.

Well, I see they have had their weekly wreck on I65, glad when this construction is done. Thankfully no one was killed, that is the important thing in my book.

I am not sure how may hours traffice was backed up but it took us 2.5 hours to get from mm43 to exit 48. We took a short cut after the exit but it still took us another 1.5 hours to get back on I65. I would love to know how long the interstate was closed.

Semi drivers are usually the only ones doing the speed limit through the construction. Please don't comment unless you know the facts of what caused the accident.

Cause of accident: driver was on his CELL PHONE, dropped it and tried to pick it up. It took 3 hours to get one lane cleared. He and one passenger were lucky to have survived and darn lucky not to have killed anybody. We were first through and only had to wait 3 hrs. Must have been backed up for miles. People, get off your phones while driving!!

And it is still backed up hours later at 10:11pm. If people would actually drive 55mph as directed in the construction zones, these senseless accidents would be few and far between.
