Fairness Rally to be Held in Richmond

Posted: 10:48 AM Jul 17, 2012

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) -- A rally is being held in support of a lesbian couple who was kicked out of a park in Richmond after kissing.

The Fairness Coalition says in a statement that residents will join the couple, Cheri Chenault and Destiny Keith, to rally on Wednesday in an effort to get city officials to pass a local fairness ordinance, which would prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation.

The statement says a fairness law has been advocated by the Richmond Commission on Human Rights for four years, but city commissioners haven't yet considered the measure, which would prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

The only cities in Kentucky that currently have such laws include Covington, Lexington.
