Senator Rand Paul Speaks in Bowling Green
Before he speaks at the upcoming Republican National Convention later this month, Senator Rand Paul stopped by Bowling Green today to speak with the Rotary Club on issues that effect the upcoming election.
"I think there's certain principles you don't compromise. But on details, numbers, and where you split the middle on alot of these things, sure there's a middle ground that we all can find. But we have to get there, and that takes leadership. Somebody who's willing to bridge the divide and fix things," said Sen. Paul.
Rep. Jody Richards responded to the topic of compromise in Washington.
"So I think that they, first of all, need to set out areas that they can compromise on," said Rep. Richards.
One of those areas discussed was social security.
"Social security is $6 trillion short, and so I have a bill that raises the age, and means tests the benefits," said Sen. Paul.
Another hot button issue discussed was income tax, and outsourcing businesses overseas.
"Seventeen percent income tax. How do you compete with that? So many of these businesses are going to Canada. Europe is in the low twenties. You can't compete. Your jobs are lost overseas," said Sen. Paul.
Sen. Paul sumarized these issues by addressing what he believes is the source of most problems.
"We really live in a time where we've lost control of our government. Even represetatives have lost control of our government. We write laws which are so loosely worded that the rest of the law is worded by unelected bureaucrats," said Sen. Paul.
Senator Paul says he hopes to address these issues and the topic of compromise at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. He will also be speaking to the Rotary Club in Franklin tomorrow.
