Six-Year-Old Saves Family From Fire

Posted: 10:47 AM May 23, 2012

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A Louisville boy is being credited with saving the lives of his dad and brother when their home caught fire.

Six-year-old Gage Chaney told WAVE-TV (http://bit.ly/Jn2IcP) that he woke up and saw flames near him so he knew he had to wake his dad and older brother.

Shane Chaney said his son woke him from a deep sleep and he didn't move quickly at first, but then realized that Gage had black soot all over his face. The two raced downstairs and woke up 11-year-old Dustin Ferguson.

All of them got out of the house safely. They were treated for smoke inhalation at Jewish Hospital, which gave Gage a certificate naming him a super hero for his actions.

Firefighters say they believe an electrical surge may have cause the blaze.
