Tropical Storm Beryl Still Making an Impact

Posted: 1:03 PM May 29, 2012

Parts of the south are getting hammered by what's left of tropical depression Beryl today.

The stormy weather prompted flood watches and warnings from Florida to North Carolina.

Last night the storm rattled Jacksonville, Florida, taking down trees and powerlines.

Susan Newton says she was surprised some dismissed Beryl, as she recounted her efforts battling high waters.

"You were like knee deep out here, and that's if you could get down here at all. As you came down this water way, water was just blowing out, big boards, just debris of all kinds of stuff, bottles, stuff, everything out here. You could just see things floating around out here. People were trying to get out here just so you could get a look, but you couldn't get anywhere close to it," says Newton.

Beryl was expected to head toward the coast of South Carolina before pushing back out to sea.

Meteorologists with the National Hurricane Center say Beryl may regain tropical storm status on Wednesday.
