Kentucky State Police say Warren County Deputy Captain Maxie Jones shot 51-year-old Richard Humphrey just before 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.
KSP says Captain Jones responded to a disturbance call at 3293 Garrett Hollow Road, where Humphrey allegedly brandished a firearm at him. Troopers say Captain Jones gave repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon. Humphrey then raised his firearm at Captain Jones, who fired two rounds at Humphrey, striking him once in the upper left shoulder.
Humphrey was taken to the Medical Center in Bowling Green, then flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.
KSP says Humphrey's injury appears to be non-life threatening. Captain Jones has been placed on administrative leave.
The investigation is still ongoing, under the direction of Detective Michael May. Det. May was assisted on scene by Lieutenant John Clark, Sergeant Jaman Childers, Detective Chad Winn, Troopers Jermaine Savage, and Matt Cardwell.
