Bristow Elementary Collecting Shoes To Help Developing Countries Get Clean Water
Bristow Elementary is collecting old shoes for a good cause.
The school has already collected thirteen hundred shoes in two weeks, as part of a "Shoes for Water" campaign.
The shoes will be sent to countries like Haiti and Honduras, where contaminated water is a major issue.
Not only will the shoes be sold to retailers there, providing locals with footwear, but the funds generated from their export will also provide water purification systems for those countries.
"We went around to different houses and threw shoes in the back and that's how we got shoes," says Trey Colson, a student at Bristow Elementary.
"My brother went to Haiti and so I saw the pictures of their water and saw that they really needed stuff like to drink and I felt like it was going to be a good idea to make a flyer and send it around my neighborhood to get shoes," says Samantha Reed, a student at Bristow Elementary.
If you would like to donate a pair of shoes, you can drop them off at Bristow Elementary by the end of the school day Friday.
